Jan Bahner
Board President
Jan is a retired nurse and health care executive. Her professional career focused on improving performance in healthcare, especially quality and patient safety. She approached her career with a passion for patient advocacy and developing people. Her particular expertise is as a change agent. She holds a BSN from the University of Maryland, an MSHA from Colorado University, and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Georgetown University.
After three decades with MedStar Health, she retired in Maryland and focused on giving back to the community. She volunteered as a consultant to local non-profits in developing strategic plans and improving operational and board performance.
In Maryland she held numerous leadership positions at her church, ultimately facilitating/leading the merger of two churches. She also served as Vice President of the Board of the Student Support Network, a non-profit dedicated to assisting students who are homeless or living in poverty in Baltimore County Public Schools.
Her connection to the Central Maryland Meals on Wheels program, as a delivery driver and then chair of the Site Representative Council with a community seat on the board, brought her to Island Senior Resources when she relocated to Oak Harbor to be closer to family. Her interest in helping seniors remain in their homes and the nutritional need often present in this population was a deciding factor to her joining the ISR Board in July 2021.
Jan fell in love with Whidbey Island when she first visited her son, stationed at NAS Whidbey, 25 years ago. Jan visited frequently and finally moved to Whidbey Island in June of 2020.
