Story is hard-wired into the brain, a prehistoric hangover from our fight or flight days in the African rift. The “story mind” is prepared to accept any story that meets the essential goals of keeping the reader turning the page. This is not just for entertainment, but for survival of our race. Story uncovers the past and reveals the future. The classes will be peppered with discussions of story craft as well as suggestions on how to best deploy elements of fiction to reach your goal: the story.
This course is an exercise-driven workshop that will drive you through your story beginning to end in four weeks. Character and setting will push the plat as it flies through dramatic rise, crisis, confrontation, and resolution. The writer will emerge with a skeleton of a complete story and roughed in scenes.
Instructor: Jo Meador Open to writers of all levels. (Materials needed: Notebook-spiral or composition style- and pen.)
