Who Sets Your Limits?
By Robin Bush, ISR Communications
Do you need to stand up a bit more carefully now than you used to, while friends the same age seem to bounce out of their chairs like they were 30 years old?
Aging is happens differently for each of us. We have no control over how we age, but we do control our attitude toward our aging. My brother competed in triathlons around the world at my age, yet while I can comfortably speed-walk 5 miles, my knees will no longer let me run distances that were easy to do just a few years ago. We both were athletic in our earlier years, have an excellent diet, and are in good health, so what’s the difference? My friend, my age, can no longer see well enough to drive at night, while I can. My hearing is diminished, yet none of my friends wear hearing aids, yet.
I accept I have and will have limitations as I age, but I don’t let anyone else limit me. I have the ability to find creative solutions to challenges. So, I say to people who may question my choices or want to limit me, “Please don’t tell me I can’t do something at this age.” I accept I have limitations, but I identify them, not someone else. I have to be realistic to stay safe and healthy, and know when to stop, but there is no limit to my determination and positive attitude to reach for the sky.
