How to Be Prepared for Poor Air Conditions

Air Quality Announcement

With smoky conditions expected across Whidbey and Camano Islands this week, we want to ensure our community has the information needed to protect their health. Older adults and individuals with underlying heart or lung conditions face a higher risk when air quality worsens.

Keep These Tips and Resources in Mind:

  • Monitor Air Quality: Check current conditions and forecasts daily on the Washington Smoke Blog.
  • Limit Outdoor Time: When air quality reaches “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” or worse, stay indoors, and avoid strenuous outdoor exercise.
  • Keep Indoor Air Clean: Run a portable HEPA air filter at home if available.
  • Clean Air Spaces: If a home becomes hot or lacks air filtering, encourage clients to visit a clean, air-conditioned public space, such as a local Sno-Isle library branch, to cool down and breathe clean air. Click here to find a library near you.
  • Medication Readiness: Ensure necessary medications (such as inhalers or heart prescriptions) are readily available.
