Get Ready! Open Enrollment is Almost Here!

By Annette Barca, SHIBA Volunteer for Whidbey Island

Open Enrollment for Medicare and related plans is just around the corner. Beginning October 15th and ending December 7th, this annual window is your chance to review coverage, consider your health needs, and make updates for the year ahead. With some basic preparation, you can ensure you get the coverage that fits your life and your budget.

Here is a list of preparation tasks you should complete prior to October 15th:

  • Save your Annual Notice of Change (aka ANOC) after you have read it.
  •  Note the changes in your plan(s) from the ANOC.
  •  Get a copy of the Open Enrollment Toolkit to help organize and collect materials you receive for open enrollment. (ISR has them available as do the libraries and The Center in Oak Harbor).
  • Make sure you have an accurate list of your medication(s) including the dosage, size and how often used.
  • If interested, you can use the website “medicare.gov” to review drug and/or advantage plans
  • Call ISR (360-321-1600) for an appointment for help with your Medicare options.  Appointments are available both face-to-face and by phone. Trained SHIBA volunteers are available to assist you.  SHIBA volunteers provide a FREE and unbiased service.

Careful preparation now leads to confidence and peace of mind during Open Enrollment. Whether you are comparing plans, tracking changes, or have questions along the way, you don’t have to do it alone. Island Senior Resources and our SHIBA volunteers are here with free, unbiased support to help you make the best decision for your health and your future.
