Charles came to Whidbey Island in 2019 to found Island Senior Resources’ first development office in its 50-year history. Since then, he has increased the Annual Giving Campaign five-fold, established best practices in financial development and donor relations, created measurable strategic and tactical plans, created donor communications, and inspired 30 planned gifts. Charles engages donors at his dining room table with cooked meals. A full-time fundraising executive for 40 consecutive years in four religious and four human-service non-profits, Charles has raised more than $80 million in his career to ease human suffering. He has written three books and is finishing his fourth. His most recent book won a gold medallion Illumination Award. A master potter of 42 years, Charles is an active public speaker, conflict mediator and retreat leader.
