Our volunteers…
- Make a difference in our community for seniors and their families.
- Come from all walks of life and are all ages.
- Are looking for a rewarding and impactful experience.
- Work towards fulfilling community service hours for school.
No matter your goals, ISR can help you make the difference you’re looking for! We appreciate your support and look forward to partnering with you to serve our neighbors. Becoming an ISR volunteer is a unique opportunity to help ISR achieve its mission. Our volunteer team is over 200 people and counting. Now you make one more!
Being active helps keep my mind from growing old! It stimulates my memory having to remember certain aspects of my work process plus it gives me a good and happy feeling knowing I am still able to interact with others, even those younger than myself!

- The application includes a disclosure section and permission for us to run a background check.
- Once your application is approved you will receive an email inviting you to orientation.
Step 2: Orientation
- The Volunteer Orientation is held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 1-3pm at our Bayview location.
- Once your application is approved, contact us to get signed up.
- If you can’t attend the scheduled monthly orientation, reach out to us for other options.

Step 3: Training
- Immediately following your orientation or shortly afterwards, you will meet with the head of the program you are going to volunteer for so that you can sign up for shifts and training.

Volunteer FAQ
Once I apply, what is the approval process?
You will be contacted once your application is approved. The approval process can take up to one week from the time you submit your application.
Will my application expire?
Once you apply, your application is valid for 2 years. If you have not volunteered in that period, you will need to submit a new application in order to start volunteering.
What is the commitment for a volunteer?
Although short term volunteers are sometimes needed, we encourage volunteers to commit to volunteer for one full year, with a minimum of two shifts per month.
Commitment varies depending on the program and volunteer assignment. Some volunteers work every day, others just volunteer once per month.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
We welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering, young or old. For anyone under 18 years old, parental or guardian consent is required to volunteer.
What are the requirements for volunteer drivers?
For liability and contract purposes, all volunteer drivers are required to keep ISR up to date with their driver, auto and insurance records.
- Driver’s License
- Automobile Insurance
- Automobile Registration
- Driver’s Abstract (every year)
- Vehicle Inspection (required for Medical Transportation driver’s only)
Do I have to do a Background Check?
All ISR volunteers are subject to a Washington State Patrol (WSP) Identification and Criminal History Background Check every year. You will be notified if the WSP report shows evidence of a criminal background that will adversely affect your ability to volunteer at ISR.
Can I complete Community Service hours at ISR?
Applicants wishing to complete mandated community service are welcome to apply. If accepted into our volunteer program, there are opportunities to volunteer at Senior Thrift.
