AARP TAX-AIDE PROVIDES FREE TAX RETURN PREPARATION

You don’t need to be an AARP member to use this service.

AARP Tax-Aide will offer free tax return preparation on Whidbey this year. The service is a joint venture with the IRS to promote filing returns electronically. All returns that are able to be e-filed will be e-filed. 

This service is available to taxpayers with low and moderate income, with special attention to those ages 60 and over, however, there is no age requirement and AARP membership is not required.

To make an appointment, leave a message with your name, phone, and requested location, date and time. Appointments are recommended and will receive preference over walk-ins.

No walk-ins will be accepted during the last hour of operation.

What to Bring for Your Tax Appointment Please bring the following so that we can file your taxes:

  • Photo ID
    For you and your spouse.

  • Social Security or ITIN Cards
    For you, your spouse, your children, and anyone listed on your return.
    Copies are OK, but we need to see the cards even if you know the numbers.

  • Last Year’s Tax Return
    Federal and State (if you filed one).

  • Income Documents

    • SSA-1099 (Social Security benefits)
    • RRB-1099-R (Railroad Retirement benefits)
    • 1099-R (Pension, annuity, or IRA distribution)
    • W-2 (Wages from each employer)
    • W-2G (Gambling winnings)
    • 1099-G (Unemployment compensation)
    • Other 1099 forms (Interest, dividends, self-employment, etc.)
  • Investment Information
    If you sold stocks or mutual funds:

    • Broker’s statement or details of purchase and sale (dates and prices).
  • Tax Payment Records
    Any forms showing federal tax paid, including estimated tax payments.

  • Health Insurance Information
    For everyone in your household, including Form 1095-A if you used the Marketplace or Washington Exchange.

  • If You Plan to Itemize
    Bring records for:

    • Medical expenses
    • Taxes and mortgage interest
    • Charitable contributions
  • Childcare Information
    Name, address, and tax ID of childcare providers.

  • Bank Information
    For electronically deposited refunds or to pay an amount you owe, bring a check with your name and account number (for direct deposit or payment).
    We will not keep the check.
