Whidbey Island Momentia Summer Events

Brain Health and Dementia Awareness in Our Communities
A new community program is launching on Whidbey Island to help residents better understand dementia and take practical steps to improve brain health at any age.
Whidbey Island Momentia, a local initiative supported by volunteers trained through the Washington State Department of Health, is introducing a collection of FREE public presentations on dementia awareness. The effort builds on Momentia’s work since 2023 to support people experiencing cognitive changes and those who care for them.
“Dementia is a scary word, and fear can take over,” said Ginger Opdyke of Whidbey Island Momentia. “Education helps people put that fear in its place so they can make decisions based on facts and their own values.”
The program highlights growing evidence that lifestyle changes can help reduce dementia risk and that early diagnosis can improve quality of life. In addition to the new series, Momentia offers a Memory Café, support groups, and ongoing education to help people stay connected and live well with dementia.
Two upcoming FREE presentations, “Brain Health and Dementia Awareness in Our Communities,” will be held:
